ROOT CANAL TREATMENT in Springfield, Missouri

At Ascend Dental Design offices in Missouri, we offer comfortable and effective root canal treatments using advanced technology.

Do you have a persistent toothache or dental infection? An infection can form when bacteria enter the pulp of a tooth. This can spread to the neighboring teeth and impact your oral health. A root canal procedure at Ascend Dental Design can eliminate infection at its source by removing the diseased nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissues from inside the tooth.

What is a Root Canal?

When infection and decay spread to the inside of your tooth, called the pulp, you might begin to experience severe pain and swelling. If not treated promptly, you may also have tooth sensitivity, fever, pimple-like sores on your gums, and difficulty chewing or biting.

Our dentists will recommend a root canal procedure if you have any of these symptoms. It involves removing the inflamed pulp and cleaning out the decayed portion of your tooth. After this, the empty pulp area is filled with medicated material and sealed.

A root canal treatment will not only decrease this pain, but it will save your natural tooth and avert possible tooth extraction.

Telltale Signs You Need a Root Canal

If you experience any of these symptoms, you may require a root canal:

  • Severe, throbbing toothache
  • Extreme tooth sensitivity
  • Pain while chewing or biting
  • An abscess or infection on the gums
  • Swollen, puffy, or tender gums
  • Severe darkening of the tooth or gums
  • Nerve damage due to physical trauma

If you notice any of these telltale signs or symptoms, contact us right away. As Missouri’s most trusted root canal treatment specialists, we will identify the source of the concern and provide relief.

What To Expect During a Root Canal?

At Ascend Dental Design, we offer effective and pain-free root canal treatment. The treatment requires 1-2 dental visits, involving the following steps:

  • During the initial consultation with our dentist, we will perform a dental exam and obtain X-rays to understand the severity of the tooth’s condition, evaluate their overall oral health, and confirm their candidacy for the treatment.
  • After administering local anesthesia, our dentist will prepare the tooth and make a small access hole in the dental crown to eliminate the infected dental pulp using special instruments.
  • After cleaning the pulp chamber and tooth roots, the dentist seals the area with gutta-percha, a rubber-like material. If needed, antibiotic medication may also be injected into the tooth.
  • As the last step, a dental crown is placed over the tooth to complete the restoration and protect the weakened tooth from any future damage.

Recovering From a Root Canal

After the root canal treatment, take your antibiotics and prescribed pain medicine. Ensure that you get good rest and relaxation after the procedure. Eat only soft foods for the first few days, and do not bite down or chew with the treated tooth immediately after the procedure. Avoid the treated area while brushing, flossing, and rinsing, as it might still be tender or sore. And always keep your scheduled dental appointments.
