Root Canal Treatment
If you’re experiencing a persistent toothache or dental infection, root canal treatment can provide relief while saving your natural tooth. Despite its reputation, modern root canal therapy is comfortable and effective—and it’s often the best way to preserve a tooth that would otherwise need to be extracted.
Root Canal Treatment in Springfield, MO
Save your tooth with comfortable, effective care.
At Ascend Dental Design, we use advanced technology and gentle techniques to make root canal treatment as comfortable as possible. When infection or decay reaches the inside of your tooth (the pulp), a root canal removes the damaged tissue, eliminates infection, and seals the tooth to prevent future problems. Our goal is always to help you keep your natural teeth whenever possible.

What to expect with root canal treatment
Root canal treatment typically requires one or two visits. Here’s what the process looks like at Ascend Dental Design.
Examination & Diagnosis
We’ll examine the affected tooth, take X-rays to assess the extent of infection, and confirm that root canal treatment is the best option.
Comfortable Anesthesia
Local anesthesia is administered to ensure you’re completely comfortable throughout the procedure. Most patients feel no pain during treatment.
Pulp Removal
We create a small access opening in the tooth and carefully remove the infected or damaged pulp from the inner chambers and root canals.
Cleaning & Sealing
The empty canal space is thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and sealed with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha to prevent reinfection.
Final Restoration
A crown is typically placed over the treated tooth to protect it from future damage and restore its full function and appearance.

Schedule Your ConsultationHow do I know if I need a root canal?
Common signs include severe toothache, prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, darkening of the tooth, swollen or tender gums, and pain when chewing or biting. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, contact us for an evaluation.
Is root canal treatment painful?
Modern root canal treatment is much more comfortable than its reputation suggests. With local anesthesia, most patients feel little to no pain during the procedure—and the treatment actually relieves the pain caused by the infection.
What happens after a root canal?
You may experience some tenderness for a few days, which can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. We’ll provide aftercare instructions and schedule a follow-up to place your permanent crown.
Why is a crown needed after a root canal?
After root canal treatment, the tooth can become more brittle over time. A crown protects the tooth from fracturing and restores its full strength and function.
How long does a root canal treated tooth last?
With proper care and a protective crown, a tooth that has had root canal treatment can last a lifetime. Regular checkups and good oral hygiene are key to long-term success.
